FAA 107 Commercial Drone Pilot Practice Exam

The Remote Pilot in Command (RPIC) is generally responsible for the safety of the flight because this individual holds the authority for the operation of the unmanned aircraft system (UAS) and is accountable for making significant decisions regarding the flight. The RPIC must ensure adherence to regulations, assess the conditions of the flight environment, and evaluate any potential risks that might arise during operation. Furthermore, the RPIC is tasked with ensuring that all safety protocols are followed, that the aircraft is in a condition for safe flight, and that the flight is operated within the parameters set forth by the FAA and any relevant local authorities.

While other crew members, such as the visual observer, payload operator, and maintenance technician, may contribute to the overall safety and operational success of the flight, they do so under the direction of the RPIC. Each of these roles has specific responsibilities, but they ultimately support the RPIC's leadership in maintaining safety during the mission.
